Extra Incentives to Vote!
Unfortunately we don't have either of these in Tucson, but there are lots of people in Utah and other places that do have these businesses where they live.
Free Krispy Kreme Doughnut if you Vote!

If not, you should reconsider. Why?
Because if you wear your I VOTED sticker, you will get a free Star Spangled Doughnot, pictured above.
They do ask that you call your local Krispy Kreme first, as only participating restaurants will be offering these. Click here to find your closest location.
Another incentive to Vote! Free Ice Cream!
Thanks to reader Jenny D. for sharing this Yummy find!
In celebration of the election this coming Tuesday, Ben & Jerry's will be giving a free scoop ( one per customer ) between 5 and 8Pm.
As always, make sure your store is participating before heading out! Click here to check.
Thanks, Carrie from Money Saving Methods!

Your Local Library

The Library subscribes to 2 services, NetLibrary and OverDrive, to make downloadable materials available to you with your library card as well.
I also love the Interlibrary Loan. There are lots of books that were available in Utah and Idaho libraries that I can't find in our library system. If our Pima County does not have a book you would like to read, you can request items from other library systems and pick them up at your local library. You are limited to six (6) Interlibrary Loan requests at a time. This can be a combination of items, such as 4 books and 2 photocopy articles, or 6 books. In most cases, the service is free. If there is a charge associated with the lending library, our library will tell you before they order it. It takes about 4-6 weeks for the books to arrive to your local library. Over the last 2 years, I've received 15 or more books using this system and have never had to pay a fee.
You get the books for only 3 weeks. They can not be renewed. There is a three (3) day grace period for Interlibrary Loan books. Fines for overdue books are fifty cents per day, with a maximum of $10.00. Charges for lost or damaged books are billed to you at whatever rate the lending library charges.
What types of materials can not be requested?
- New books (within one year of publication). New books often have waiting lists on them. Libraries will not loan new materials via Interlibrary Loan because they want their own customers to be able to use new books.
- Any item that is owned by or on order for any Pima County Public Library.
- Audio-visual materials: CDs, books on tape, videos, DVDs and computer software.
- Electronic Resources
- Books available as reference items at any Pima County Public Library.
- Rare, fragile or books in heavy demand.
- Material from the National Archives or materials from libraries outside of North America.
- Books that you borrowed via Interlibrary Loan in the past year. You can only request a title once per year.

10/30 My KOLD13 Meal Deal of the Week

As Seen on KOLD13's Morning News Thursday Morning 5:50-6:00 a.m..
This week I show how to make my favorite Halloween treat!
Black Cat Cookies (from my New York Times Best Selling 101 Things To Do With A Cake Mix)
3/4 cup crunchy peanut butter
2 eggs
1/3 cup water
1 chocolate cake mix
plain M&Ms
Red Hots
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together peanut butter, eggs, and water. Gradually add cake mix and blend well. Form dough into 1-inch balls. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet and flatten balls with bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Pinch out 2 ears at top of cookie. Add M&Ms as eyes and a Red Hot as a nose. Press fork into the sides of the cat face to form whiskers. Bake 8-10 minutes.
Note: You can substitute candy corn for M & Ms if desired.
Citrus-Glazed Chicken (from my book 101 More Things to Do With A Slow Cooker)
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (halves)
1/3 cup orange juice
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Place chicken in greased 3 to 4 1/2-quart slow cooker. Pour orange juice over chicken. Sprinkle brown sugar and salt over top. Cover and cook on low heat 6-9 hours. Remove chicken with slotted spoon or spatula. Pour liquid from slow cooker into a small saucepan. Stir in cornstarch with a whisk. Over medium heat, bring to a boil, stirring until sauce thickens. Pour glaze over chicken. Makes 4 servings.
Autumn Carrots (from my book 101 More Things To Do With A Slow Cooker)
2 pound baby carrots
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
2/3 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
Place carrots in greased 2 to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker. Combine other ingredients and pour over carrots. Cover and cook on low heat 3-4 hours or until carrots are tender. Makes 8-10 servings. Serve as a side to your meal of choice.
For a thicker sauce: When carrots are done remove from slow cooker with a slotted spoon and keep warm. Pour drippings from slow cooker into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Add a mixture of 1/3 cup water and 2 tablespoons cornstarch to saucepan. Return to a boil and pour over carrots before serving.
